I bought it early when all the reviewers were saying bullsh*t like the 8GB on Apple Silicon is like 16GB on Intel. I read on Reddit that they bought a company that specialized in using Swap without wearing the SSD.Īll this could have been avoided if they would've made the 16GB the default. On the other end they've been using Swap on iPhones and they last forever. Then they fixed it and shrugged it off as a "reporting" issue. When it first came out, it was using Swap like crazy with users reporting 300TB+ of writes on their SSD. But it also heavily relies on using Swap (using SSD as RAM) which can shorten the life of the unreplaceable SSD. You don't notice any actual slowdowns in usage because it uses RAM compression if you haven't used that app in a bit. However, macOS w/Apple Silicon is super smart with RAM. Simple things like Facebook, Reddit & Apple Music can quickly ramp up to 1.5GB+ each. Then you can actually see how much it struggles with RAM. Well, it's fine if you don't open the Activity Monitor to see what's going on. Will probably be dreaming of getting an M1 Max in my sleep. I'm dizzy and sleep deprived but it feels good.
